![]() They were the first residents here.” Kristin continued, “We were greeted so warmly and have such help from our lovely and supportive neighbors. Kristin said, “It was then that we chose to honor the owl with the name Lechuza. As the winemaking flourished, the invitation came from her parents to help create the business. Ray and Patty were welcomed into this valley community, as were Kristin and her husband, Adam. Besides their beauty, Ray highly respected their service as “ground control,” keeping pests out of the vineyard. Barn owls are monogamous, with one partner for life. The barn owl has a white heart-shaped face and a four foot wing span that allows for the stealth of their flight. They had what Kristin calls a “highly addictive hobby.” She tells the story of during that period of time the owls flourished here and Ray loved to watch their silent flight. Kristin’s parents, Ray and Patty Magnussen came to the valley with a dream. ![]() While the business of wine tasting, gift shop and future gourmet deli, is relatively new, the winemaking has been going on since 2005. Kristin is a tall blond Norwegian and in the first meeting, articulates beautifully what it is like to be a winemaker in the Guadalupe Valley. Kristin Shute unlocks the gate and welcomes me in. Vinos Lechuza is a unique name, meaning owl and its fascinating story is about to be revealed. Vinos Lechuza is nestled in the vineyard on the north side of the road at 82.5 Km between the turn off to Laja and Los Naranjos. The winemakers are hard at work now nurturing the 2017 harvest through the fermentation, while the 2016 harvest is ready to be bottled. It is October, the grape vines have given of their fruit and are beginning to rest, their leaves turning golden to brown. The Guadalupe Valley opens up in a vast promise of delightful experiences. Very disappointed and definitely would not recommend.Highway 3 to Tecate winds gracefully through the foothills dropping into the Baja California wine country. In the last two decades, this is only the second hotel that we have not experienced a good level of service and or good quality of the facility. We travel frequently - over 10 times per year throughout Canada and internationally. The quality of the hotel and enjoyment of my stay is more important to me than a discount. The front desk was just told to give us 20 percent off the room. When I asked to speak with a manger because of issues, no one came out. Megan in the lounge said it was her second shift and was new to the Fairmont. One staff member was courteous and friendly. It doesn’t matter what temperature you set it on, our rooms wouldn't cool below 22/23C and were consistently musty. The front desk assured us that we could come down until 10:30am. We arrived at 9:45am and 10am on weekend days and were turned away. If you have breakfast included in the room fee, ensure you’re at the restaurant early. After waiting for 45 min to be served, one member from our group walked up to a server to mention that we had been waiting over 30 min for service ( it was not busy) and her reply was “I doubt it was 30 min”. Dead bugs on the window sill and bed, dirty nigh table and phone handset, and carpets were not vacuumed. The room that we checked into was filthy. We'll be advising other couples of this policy and security staff on wedding forums and reviews. His demeaner is the issue at hand as it was terrible and unprofessional, our daughter thought she was in trouble for the rest of our wedding day. Although I disagree with this policy as we paid 6 nights worth of hotel charges and as a guest, having access to the hotel amenities but only because she was in a wedding dress with a photographer does it conflict with this policy. A security member came over (Moe I believe his name was, security manager?) and rudely told them off and that they couldn't take photos, saying he would've known if they could as he would have an "email" and can only do so if the wedding was at the hotel. On the day of our wedding, my wife was taking some photos on the main floor of the hotel with the bridesmaids and our 6 year old daughter who was the flower girl. The hotel was great, front desk staff was polite and accommodating, and the front door staff were pleasant and always willing to help. We recently stayed at Chateau Laurier for our wedding. Great hotel, rude and unprofessional security staff
